The Institute for Excellence in Writing is an award-winning, comprehensive writing curriculum. “Writing with Structure and Style” teaches nine different structures of writing. The IEW writing method transforms struggling writers by empowering them with specific skills. Strong writers excel with specific challenges. 

The course will also cover note-taking, organizing a paragraph, retelling narrative, summarizing a reference, writing from pictures, and inventive writing.

Please note this is a 32-session class at just around $20 a session (unless on a Family Membership plan).

Course Schedule Highlights Include:

1. Weeks 1-4 – Note-taking and writing from notes

2. Weeks 5-8 – How to plan and write narratives

3. Weeks 9-10 – Combining sources, writing topic sentences (the beginning stages of report writing)

4. Weeks 11-32 – Creative writing and technique

Class & Homework Time: The typical class time spent by students is 4 days a week for 30–60 minutes per day. Daily tasks may include watching a video, outlining, writing a draft, or editing. Students should expect to write at home to finish their work. 

Important Note: At the beginning of each class, we will take turns sharing our completed work so it is important that students are prepared with finished assignments. We will be writing and speaking in our Zoom classes so NO Google, AI, computer assistance will be allowed for these classes.
